The Best Friend's Wedding

Part 4 the finale : The Groom's Side Penang Reception

Before the New Year arrived, Mr. Afif, Baby Ariz and I went to Penang. The reason is to witness the groom's reception. It was held at Dewan Tabung Haji, Bayan Lepas. For me, it was unique, my first time seeing a Pakistani-Indian influenced in the wedding Ceremony.

Bal and Shazwan were wearing a traditional costume. I love both of the costumes. Bal did whispered to me that her head scarf were so heavy. Yeah, I can tell - the material and of course the beading on the head scarf. Poor Bal! But I love it! I think that she does look good in red!

When they entered the hall, they were accompanied by Bal's family and also, the sounds of a traditional indian drums (I can't recall the name) to the beautiful Pelamin. Shazwan also gave a speech - it was not an ordinary speech because it was in Urdu! I did not understand it but Shazwan's family does! I think Bal, you have to learn it as well!

Shazwan spoke Urdu!

Baby Ariz

3-month development

Ariz turned 3 months yesterday! I can't believe that he is growing up so fast and he is already going to school. Well, it is actually a nursery but it feels like going to school. Definitely, it was so hard for me to leave at the nursery, giving a total stranger to look out for him.
Looking at his face on the morning of his first day made me so sad and after leaving him, I did shed some tears.  But, I got toughen up. Towards the end of the week, he looked much better, no more being anxious, looking happy, smiling and talking (baby talk, of course).
He used to be wanting attention whenever we put him down on his play gym or his bouncer, wanting to be carried around. But, only on the fourth day, he was already playing, touching the  dangling toys on the bouncer while I was cleaning up his bottles. My boy is getting big so fast.

Let's see what he has become

  • Weight : 5.6kg
  • Height : 66cm
  • Sight : Ariz is now able to follow anything in front of him. He can see me through the reflection in the mirror - I realised this when I was holding him while putting on my make up. I think his vision has grown.
  • Body movement
    • He kicks a lot and sometimes it is hard to change his diaper since he could push him against my legs.
    • He smiles easily whenever we look at him and calling his name out.
    • He can be on his tummy and lifts his head high up for a while.

The Best Friend's Wedding

Part 3 : The Wedding Dinner

This is the part 3 of my best friend's wedding. This time is a wedding dinner, very casual and laid back dinner. It was held at Bukit Kiara Equestrian Park on the 22nd December 2013. The guests were all dressed up, looking pretty and handsome.  Bal did mention that the theme of the dinner was Black and White - look at her dress! I love it so much!

The invitation card - so creative!
The entrance of the bride and the groom.
Looking beautiful and dashing!

Mr. Afif and I sat with bunch of other crazy girlfriends and we talked and laughed throughout the dinner. The food was great especially the pumpkin soup! And the best part about this dinner was, there were a number of performances - performed by Shazwan's closest friends, dad and of course, the bride and groom!

Us being us!

A decent photo of us.

The Best Friend's wedding

Part 2 : The Bride's side Reception

On the 21st December, after the Solemnization ceremony, it was timed for the bride's side reception. It officially started at 12pm and ended at 4pm. Us, the dulang carriers stayed back to celebrate the couple's union.

We had a very wonderful meal with lots of desserts including ice cream, teh tarik, nasi briyani etc. Poor Baby Ariz, he slept in his stroller. Thank you Mr. Afif for taking care of him while I was on duty.

At 1.30pm, the groom's family re-arrived to the venue, it was again at Bal's grandparents' house. Both the bride and the groom changed their attires into a Songket ensemble. I love when the bride and groom wear songket -  totally malay style. Even I myself wore Songket during my wedding reception.

Alin, Peii, Sara, Hanna and I were given the task of being the first friends toll keeper. We had to "avoid" the groom from meeting the bride and we will eventually let him in with 1 condition - angpow! He must give us some angpow and then, we would make his way to another 2 tolls - the bride's brother and her aunties. Obviously, the nearer he gets to the bride, the higher is the angpow value and the difficulties of pleasing the toll keepers.

When Shazwan arrived at his throne@pelamin, he and his family were welcomed and a prayer@doa was recited. The couple were also entertained by a number of Malay dances.

The Best Friend's Wedding

Part 1 : The Solemnization Ceremony

The last 2 weekends of 2013 were the biggest weekends of my dear, close, childhood, best friend Balqis. I have known her since we were in kindergarten and our friendship lasts up till now. Alhamdulillah! Now, she is married to her better half, Shazwan.

On the 21st December was the date of their solemnization. It was held at her grandparents' house in Petaling Jaya. Being one of the dulang carriers, I was supposed to be there at 8.30am but Mr. Afif, Baby Ariz and I came at 9.00am. Sorry for being late Bal, being a new mom, I am still adjusting about the timing when it comes to going out and punctuality of being at a certain place and time.

When I arrived at her grandparents' house, the other girls were already there and Bal was still in progress to being pretty! I love her solemnization outfit. So pretty! The other dulang carriers were looking superbly nice in peach and batik given by the bride. Obviously, when Bal was ready, all of us took pictures together to immortalize the last few minutes of still being a MISS.

Shazwan came and his whole family arrived. At that time, Bal's hands were already cold. Who wouldn't. We, the dulang carriers, did out part - putting the dulangs with gifts for Shazwan in the middle of the room after we got the cue from Aunty Mawar (Bal's aunty). After the khutbah nikah by the jurunikah, then the moment has arrived for Bal. Her father took his place, Shazwan got ready in front of him reaching out his hands and while the others were getting ready with cameras.

Us the dulang carriers, Aunty Mawar and the bride were in the room - waiting anxiously and listening attentively to the words coming out from Shazwan. With one lafaz, Bal is now Shazwan's wife. Alhamdulillah the whole ceremony went smoothly.

Bal and I - her hand bouquet and dress were exquisite!
