Raya at kampung

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri

I would like firstly to wish all my readers,
Selamat Hari Raya AidilFitri
Maaf Zahir & Batin

How was your Raya? I hope that it went well for all of you and you had fun with all your loved ones. Mine was super fun together, first time as wife to Mr. Afif, Raya after being away all these while, eating all those Raya delicacies -  Rendang, Ketupat, Lemang.

Let me tell you what we did on Raya.

We went back to my ayah's hometown, Kulim  on the 6th August. Instead of going straight to my grandmother's place, we spent our days in Hotel Seri Malaysia, Kulim. It was suggested by my Ayah. The reason was my grandmother's place was not big enough to cater for all of us - yeah, all my cousins form Johor, Sungai Petani  came back to help out and celebrate Hari Raya together. On top of that, being pregnant, Ayah thought, it would be more comfortable for me.

On the 7th August, I helped out my aunties preparing Rendang and Bihun Sup. Yup, bihun sup! We have it almost every Raya and it has become the specialty every time during Raya. Relatives who come to visit  already know what they are having and it is different from other houses they visited before. Towards the evening of Raya, the menu changes to Laksa Penang, another dish that would never be missed every time we are in the north region of Malaysia!

Usually when the night falls, we always pop out firecrackers and fireworks. But, as we are getting bigger and being pregnant, I don't think it is a good idea for me to play with them. Maybe when the little munchkin is here, it will be interesting for him/her to experience it. So, all of us ended up in front of the television watching the Raya specials and chit-chatting.

On Raya morning, right before Raya prayers, Mr. Afif headed our way to my grandmother's house and ate Rendang, ketupat along with kuah kacang. Thinking about it made my mouth waters! We left for the mosque at 8.30am and came back at 10am after visiting the grave of my late grandfather who passed away when I was 3 years old.

This is the time where we love the most! The bersalam-salaman among family members while the kids, grandmother and parents receive duit Raya! This year marked our first year of giving duit Raya them since we have started working. Alhamdulillah for the extra income I have made so far. Then came the photography session. I miss this moment since I have not bee able to do so since 2004!

On 2nd day of Raya, we left for Mr. Afif's dad's hometown, Beseri, Perlis. My sister-in-law held a Aqiqah for my nephew and followed up with a Hari Raya Open house. I love the spirit of togetherness that his cousins and siblings have. Even though, most of them are already grown up but they are still close!

So, I experienced 2 days of Raya with my loved ones and I had fun! I hope that next year, I will experience the same things but with the presence of my little munchkin.
